Yoga for Pain Relief

Yoga can do wonders for many of life’s ailments. There are many forms and different types of Yoga throughout the world. Yoga is an ancient practice that usually involves controlled, purposeful breathing techniques with beneficial stretching and poses. Yoga integrates the mind, body, and spirit in a total overall treatment of pain. Yoga has been used to help treat Fibromyalgia, Migraines, Low Back Pain, Joint Pain, etc. There are many theories as to why yoga is so beneficial in the management of pain. It is believed that the easy poses and stretches combined with deep breathing can increase circulation of positive endorphins that are released during the light and low-impact physical exercise from yoga. Also, the stretching relieves tension that muscles build up when adapting to pain. Yoga can be very beneficial in the treatment of pain, but it is still best to speak with your provider before starting any new exercise program.
