Stem Cell Therapy

Overview
Pain can be anywhere in the body and pain affects many people. Certain back pains can be caused by the degeneration of the disc between each vertebra in the spine. Research into stem cell therapy for the treatment of low back pain revolves around trying to have stem cells reproduce or regenerate these discs. This option can allow patients to avoid un-necessary surgery, long recovery periods from surgery, chronic pain medications, long-term rehabilitation, etc. Providers all over the world are injecting these stem cells into ankles, knees, disc degeneration in the spine, etc.

Procedure
The process of Stem Cell therapy involves using x-rays to guide the provider in obtaining certain stem cells from bone marrow. The hip bone if often used. It takes time to prepare the stem cells, and the patient returns (a month or so later) to have those cells injected to the area of pain. This may need to be repeated.
