Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

Overview
Platelets are found in the blood. They are essential for clotting (the process which allows one to stop bleeding) and essential in wound healing. There can be benefits when the platelet rich plasma is injection to areas in need of healing. Platelet rich plasma therapy can be used to treat multiple conditions involving bone, tendons, ligaments, and discs. It can be used for wound healing after surgery, heart issues, cosmetic procedures, dental procedures, tennis elbow, arthritic joints, degenerative discs/cartilage/ligaments, etc.

Procedure
The process entails taking a small sample of patient’s blood and spinning it in a machine (centrifuge) that allows us to create a concentrated specimen of platelets. This concentration is then injected into an area in need of healing. It may take 1-6 injections that spans over a few weeks, depending on injury.

How does it Work?
Platelet rich plasma has an increased concentration of platelets and numerous hormones and cytokines that stimulate the growth or healing of soft tissue and bone.
