Types of Pain and Problems

Chronic Pain vs. Acute Pain

Chronic pain may be defined as pain that persists for more than 3 months or persists past the normal time to heal. There are many different causes and types of chronic pain. There is also a mental-behavioral aspect to chronic pain that should be addressed by your health care provider. Acute pain is more temporary pain related to an injury and heals within the appropriate time frame. There is less mental-behavior involvement with acute pain. Improper treatment or delay in treating acute pain can lead to chronic pain.
