Types of Pain and Problems

Vertebral/Spinal Fracture Pain

A fracture of the spine is a serious injury. Fractures most often occur in the thoracic and lumbar spine and men are more prone than woman. Fractures are usually caused by trauma, most often car accidents and falls. Older people are more at risk because of bone weakening due to osteoporosis. They will often experience a compression fracture, without any trauma involved. The most commonly reported symptoms of spinal fracture is pain. This pain can sometimes be alleviated by lying down, standing and walking however will aggravate the pain. The treatment depends on the severity and type of fracture. Surgery is usually indicated if the fracture area is unstable and there is significant nerve involvement. Simple fractures can be treated with a brace.
