Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is also called degenerative joint disease or hypertrophic arthritis. Osteoarthritis is a disease of the joints that primarily affects the cartilage of the joint. The cartilage within the joints may breakdown and decrease. This may cause inflammation in the joint that resulting in pain, tenderness, and redness. Osteoarthritis typically affects single joints and not multiple joints. Osteoarthritis may be diagnosed with a thorough examination by your health care provider. In addition, certain x-rays, MRI’s, and laboratory tests may be used to further assess and assist in your diagnosis. There are various treatment options that include: rest, heat/cold therapy, medications, and injections.
